Fed: Scientists to protest on IT outsourcing issue

Scientists across the country will hold protests tomorrow to try to force the federal
government to reconsider plans to outsource information technology.

The government has told staff from CSIRO, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology
Organisation and other government agencies, it's considering the future of IT and outsourcing.

Scientists remain fearful the government is intent on pursuing outsourcing and say
it's the most significant threat facing them.

CSIRO's staff association assistant secretary PAULINE GALLAGHER says the CSIRO's success
relies on teamwork and the IT people are an important part of that team.

She says outsourcing makes no sense, business-wise or work-wise.

Rallies are planned outside Parliament House in Canberra tomorrow afternoon, outside
Commonwealth offices in Melbourne and at CSIRO in North Ryde in Sydney.

They are also planned tomorrow morning in Adelaide's Rundle Mall, and outside commonwealth
offices in Brisbane.
