SA: Forensic scientists studying baby dolphin
Forensic scientists in Adelaide are examining the remains of a baby dolphin thought to have
been stabbed to death.
The mutilated bottle-nosed dolphin was found washed up on a beach in the western coastal
suburb of Semaphore last Saturday.
CATH KEMPER, from the South Australian Museum who performed an autopsy on the dolphin last
night, says it appears the mammal died from a stab wound through its spine.
But Dr KEMPER says she can't be sure of the exact cause of death until forensic scientists
examine the dolphin further.
She says the 1.3m male dolphin was between four and six weeks old, and had no obvious signs
of disease.
A spokesman for the state forensic science department says results should be released some
time tomorrow.
