Brooktrout Demos SnowShore IP Media Server on Continuous Computing AdvancedTCA Platform

Brooktrout Technology, a supplier of media processing and call- control products, announced a demonstration of its SnowShore IP Media Server, an open carrier-class IP media server, running on Continuous Computing's Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) platform.
Brooktrout said the support of the new architecture will allow network equipment vendors to incorporate the SnowShore IP Media Server into carrier-grade, AdvancedTCA systems for deployment in wireless, wireline and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks. Continuous Computing is a global provider of high availability platform solutions that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy converged communications.

The SnowShore IP Media Server is an open, carrier-class IP media server that delivers advanced media processing for communications applications, from basic messaging and prepaid services to conferencing and video mail. With standard network and programming interfaces including SIP and VoiceXML, it provides interoperability with a broad range of third-party application servers in next- generation wireline, wireless and broadband networks.

AdvancedTCA is an open industry standard for carrier-grade, blade- based servers targeting the requirements for next-generation telecommunications network equipment.

"The open, software-based technology of the SnowShore IP Media Server, which runs on Intel processors and the Linux operating system, made it straightforward to implement on Continuous Computing's AdvancedTCA system," said Peter Vescuso, vice president of market development for Brooktrout Technology. "The SnowShore architecture enables Brooktrout to offer the IP Media Server on several different standard computing platforms such as AdvancedTCA and the IBM BladeCenter. As customers of Trillium protocol software, we already were aware of Continuous Computing's product quality and hands-on approach to customer service. Based on this existing relationship, we felt very comfortable working with Continuous Computing to take advantage of the inherent power and flexibility of their AdvancedTCA product family."
