Vic: Budget should boost public housing, drought aid: VCOSS

The Victorian Council of Social Service is calling on the state government to boost
public housing and improve its drought response in tomorrow's budget.

The council's chief executive CATH SMITH says households are struggling under the burden
of rising house prices and rent.

The welfare body wants an extra 530 million dollars a year for public and community
housing .. a coordinated drought response .. more funding to step up early intervention
for vulnerable children .. new Aboriginal health programs .. and spending to cut disability
support and accommodation waiting lists.

State Opposition Leader TED BAILLIEU says the budget should deliver on services and
reformed taxes .. without increasing state debt.
