Fed: Calls for action on obesity levels

There are renewed calls for action to tackle obesity after a new report showing it
costs the economy 58 billion dollars a year.

An Access Economics report .. commissioned by Diabetes Australia .. shows a near three-fold
increase in the economic cost since 2006.

The report attributes the massive jump in cost to new figures showing 25 per cent of
adults are now considered obese.

Australian Greens leader BOB BROWN says the cost to the community is unacceptable ..

and the Greens plan to resurrect a failed Australian Democrats bill from 2006 .. to ban
the advertising of junk food during childrens' TV programs.
