Fed: Oppn, Greens turn up the heat on broadband

The opposition and minor parties are turning up the heat on the federal government
over its proposed 43 billion dollar National Broadband Network.

Debate on the NBN legislation is expected to resume in the Senate in a fortnight ..

and the government's promised to release a report into the network's viability before
the May budget.

Greens senator SCOTT LUDLAM has told ABC radio his party can't vote on the laws without
the report .. and some idea of what kind of business it's going to be .. and what it'll
cost.

The opposition's communications spokesman TONY SMITH says everyone wants a better broadband
.. but Labor's expensive .. interventionist and irresponsible road isn't the only way
to go.
