NSW: Two charged after police pursuit on Hume Highway
SYDNEY, April 17 AAP - Police pursued two men and a teenaged boy and girl in an allegedly
stolen ute before the vehicle crashed in southern NSW overnight.
Police received a complaint from a member of the public about the speed and driving
of a Victorian-registered ute on the Hume Highway near Campbelltown, south of Sydney,
shortly before 10pm (AEST) yesterday.
Officers from Bowral saw the ute about an hour later near Sutton Forest and pursued
it for a short while.
Police from Goulburn then began a pursuit near Marulan, and other officers used a tyre
deflation device to puncture a front tyre of the ute.
Police gave up the chase, but the ute was found later in bushland near Governors Hill,
where it had left the road, hit several trees and stopped on a fence-line.
The four occupants of the vehicle were arrested at the scene, with the two men taken
to Goulburn police station and the teenagers to Goulburn Hospital.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with possessing property stolen outside NSW, dangerous
driving, driving whilst disqualified, low-range drink-driving, driving a conveyance without
consent and speeding.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with riding in a conveyance without the owner's consent.
Both men were refused bail and are due to appear at Goulburn Local Court today.
A 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were given a police warning about being carried
illegally in a conveyance. The Department of Community Services has been informed.
