Vic: No petrol price hike for long weekend, but more expected

Easter holidaymakers were spared an expected petrol price hike yesterday .. with prices
remaining steady across Melbourne.

But the RACV says oil companies will soon pass on a one-cent-a-litre wholesale price
increase .. and motorists will be shocked when it happens.

RACV spokesman DAVID CUMMING says prices steadied between 124.9 cents and 125.9 a litre
yesterday.

Earlier this week .. analysts predicted petrol could hit a record high of 140 cents
a litre .. but Mr CUMMING says the oil companies may have been too scared to lift prices
amid the strong publicity.
